Appalachian Trail ... Hiking the Maryland Challenge ...
Crossing Wolfsville Road
(Gallery Has Two Pictures)
South Mountain is a north-south mountain range with several passes through it. Wolfsville Road crosses the Appalachian Trail in one such pass and the area is fairly flat for a short distance. On the north side of the road, there is a blue-blazed side-trail leading east to a parking lot, and on that trail I ran across this old automobile license plate.
On the south side of the road, the Appalachian Trail continues through a flat area for a short distance, dominated by ferns. South of this flat area, the trail rises up dramatically and roughly.
