Appalachian Trail ...
Into Pennsylvania
(Gallery Has Four Pictures)
This is the flower of a Queen Anne's Lace (Daucus carota), a kind of wild carrot that makes lovely flat white flowers. These plants often grow in open areas next to the Appalachian Trail.
Near by, this very large Eastern Yellow Jacket (Vespula maculifrons), a kind of wasp, was seen in October preparing for winter.
The Appalachian Trail continues north into Pennsylvania, past this gate.
Continuing north in Pennsylvania, after passing the gate and crossing a road, one sees this Appalachian Trail sign indicating the directions for hiking toward Maine and Georgia. In which direction would you like to go?
