Some trees are afflicted with diseases that can make them appear quite interesting, such as this warty tree.
I think this is an immature Hericium fungus growing on the bark of a tree, looking like tiny icicles. If I'm right about that identification, it could also be edible ... but note that I only eat fungus that comes from the grocery store.
The Appalachian Trail can look so different in the winter.
This view from the trail looking up at the tree tops has a very different look from the usual "green tunnel" you see in the summer.
This is a little no-name overlook by a rocky area. It is looking east toward the Catoctin Mountain Range, but the view, even in winter, is tough to see through all those branches.
