Views South of Crampton Gap
(Gallery Has Four Pictures)
South of Crampton Gap, the views were not too astonishing. Here is what it looked like to the east of the trail for much of that span: a rocky ridge.
To the west, the view was not too much more awesome, even in winter, like here, when you can see through the trees.
There was one minor overlook, looking west, which was only viewable in winter, like here. I do, however, like the interesting claw-like tree growing out of the rock. Trees in the mountains can be really tough survivors.
This is the view from the top of Brownsville Pass. You can see the Appalachian Trail running by just a bit downhill from here (from right to left). Some fiber-optic utility line lay underground here in the pass, according to this sign posted at the top of the ridge. Well, I'm glad they buried it, so I didn't need to see it hanging overhead. An interesting note: the pole that the sign was posted on was originally put in by "Ma Bell."
