There are two turnoffs for the Pine Knob Shelter, both blazed blue and maybe a quarter mile apart, and this is the northern-most one. You cannot make an open fire at Annapolis Rocks campsites, but you can do it at this shelter in the established fire ring.

The Appalachian Trail is on a hill here, going downhill south away from Annapolis Rocks, or going uphill toward Annapolis Rocks. The I-70 and MD-40 highways are at the bottom of the hill.
