This is a re-creation of the Grotto of the Nativity, located within the Church of the Nativity, in Bethlehem. This grotto is the traditional place of the birth of Jesus In the Bethlehem church, visitors arrive by one set of stairs and depart by the other set of stairs.
This is a close-up of the re-creation of the place where Jesus was born. The exact spot is marked by a fifteen-pointed silver star inlaid in the floor under an altar.
This is a re-creation of the Grotto of the Manger, where shepherds were accustomed to storing straw, and where the baby Jesus was laid after birth. In the back of this "manger" you can see a bench where a Turkish official guarded the site in former times, perfectly re-created here.
