Pink Trail
This is the intersection of the Pink and Yellow trails west of Wolf Rock. Straight ahead is the Pink Trail leading east to Wolf Rock. The trail to the left is the Yellow Trail leading west to the Blue Ridge Summit Overlook. To the right the Pink and Yellow trails combine to head south as the Pink/Yellow trail, which in turn leads to the Orange/Yellow trail, which leads to the Visitor's Center. Unseen behind me is a short trail which leads to Park Central Road and the Charcoal Loop Trail. So you see! ... this trail intersection provides several hiking options, including bailing out if you are tired.
If, instead of hiking north, you decide you want to hike south on the Pink Trail, you can see something like this, either in summer or in winter. The two seasons make the trail two totally different experiences, both of which are peaceful and quiet.
Hiking farther south on the Pink Trail, you come to this double pink blaze, which indicates a change in direction. Here the Pink Trail joins with the Orange Trail, which is coming west from Wolf Rock.
If you feel tired at this trail juncture, you can sit and rest a minute on this park bench and think about where you want to hike. The sign may provide some guidance to you.
Where the Pink Trail and the Orange Trail meet, they come together and continue west as the Orange/Pink Trail, as indicated on this tree next to the trail.
At one point, the Orange/Pink Trail makes an abrupt turn, and is stabilized by these timbers to prevent erosion. Keep hiking west from here, and you come to another trail intersection: the Pink/Yellow Trail going north to the intersection described at the top of this gallery, and the Orange/Yellow Trail going south to the Visitor's Center. Again, you have options, depending on how adventurous you feel.
