This bench at Thurmont Vista makes for a nice lunch stop as well as a nice nap.

Off to the side, under the trees, these Ghost Plants (Monotropa uniflora) were growing. These plants are also known by other names, which demonstrates the need for names based on genus and species classification to clarify the unique identity of an organism. These parasitic plants are quite unusual: they are non-chlorophyll containing, and thus depend on fungus in the soil, which in turn derive nutrients from tree roots. Consequently, they indirectly derive nutrients from chlorophyllic plants.
