Just south of the tomb of Jesus is the Saint Joseph Chapel. You may note, immediately upstairs from this chapel are the organ pipes of the church.

Standing behind this altar is a statue of Saint Joseph holding the baby Jesus. He is the husband of Mary, and he raised the youth Jesus. Since Mary, according to Christian tradition, conceived Jesus immaculately (i.e., not in the usual biological manner), Saint Joseph was the foster father of Jesus, but played every role of a father to him. On either side of the statue are panels from the life of the holy family.

This panel, to the right of the statue of St. Joseph, represents St. Joseph and his family fleeing into Egypt from Herod, who was seeking to have Jesus murdered.

This scene, mounted on the wall to the left of the altar, depicts the death of Joseph, surrounded by his family, Mary and Jesus. Because he died surrounded by his family, Saint Joseph is sometimes regarded as the patron saint of a happy death. He is also regarded as the patron saint of the Catholic Church, and the patron saint of workers (he was a carpenter).
