This is the side view of a railroad truck, mounted under a railroad car. Note the coiled spring suspension and brake shoes.
This picture shows the driving wheels of a steam engine locomotive, including the driving piston, piston rod, coupling rod, and brakes.
These two pictures show how colorful the drive wheels of a locomotive can be. Note the tube in front of the front wheel in the picture above ... that is to put sand on the tracks when needed for traction. Also note the extra metal between certain of the spokes in the wheels; this is counter-weight to ensure that the wheels are balanced as they turn. You don't want them to wobble.
These two pictures show how small locomotives have small wheels. They do, however, have good suspensions, with effective leaf springs.
These wheels are not part of a train, but are for machining equipment to go on a train. This, and the wheel below, were both located in the repair house.
You won't find this wheel on the train tracks ... it's a fly-wheel for a diesel engine.
