Sometimes while hiking, my friend Howard (right) and I stop for a rest on an Appalachian Trail park bench ... that is to say, a big log. Such park benches are reliably regular on the trail. We sat on this one just a few hundred yards north of Fox's Gap, the location of the Reno Monument.
